Now, as I indicated, there were many signs that something was brewing that could have easily been prevented, without the collateral damage that we ended up with.
It still makes me sick to my stomach, eight years later, that I still continue to hear more and more evidence implicating the former Bush Administration and the government in the attacks of 9/11. I was shocked after first entertaining the thought, but after years of hearing both sides, it's clear that government involvement was apparent. Another investigation needs to be launched and President Obama needs to do the right thing and bring to light the clear evidence that only average citizens have uncovered. Let common sense drive through political lies. I am so sick of every year, this lies continues to go unpunished. Let it end here.
I believe our government had information, warnings about a terrorist attack on America. Even Israeli spies who were in undercover surveillance assignments in the U.S. where close to the 9/11 hijackers within the time frame of 2000/01 this all comes from the magazine CounterPunch Vol.14 2007, ultimately I believe America was just too confident in thinking that no one would ever attack us, but with our globalized world changing with rogue organizations able to adapt to communicative technology, to which we have witness the catastrophic result. But I would most definitely compare the aftermath of the 9/ll attacks to what Hitler did during the burning of the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in 1933, a key event in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship. A reflection of the granted opportunity for Bush to enforce and expand his conservative agenda.
I believe there was knowledge of a terrorist attack, but nothing of this magnitude or even the day. Since nothing came close to the size of this attack, doubt it could have been known. Anyone who thinks Bush was behind it or knew about it probablly thinks that a gunman on the Knoll killed Kennedy or Obama is God and/or the anti-christ. Either way, tired of conspiracies.
Aaron, so I'll stand corrected on that the portion of the towers around the plane hit sites did exhibit the behaviour that would be expected if the hits were catastrophic. However, I never implied that I based my thoughts on the amount of debris or other things discussed in that article. I would have expected an even larger spread of debris and an even messier collapse if the plane hits were the sole cause of the collapses. I don't base my thoughts on the reports of people hearing explosions around the time the towers collapsed. The small amount of explosives needed would never have been heard by anyone that survived, and even nearby inside the building. In controlled implosions there are very few explosives used since they only need to sever just enough structural elements to cause a collapse. With an already weakened structure from the plane hits, it really would not have taken much to trigger a collapse. I could very well be wrong about explosives being used at all, if the theory of burning jet fuel going down the central core to the basement is what happened. Burning jet fuel could have softened the rebar in the concrete just enough to cause it to fail. Again, would not have taken much at that point. Either way, the buildings still showed the bottom floors giving out in a manner much like controlled demolition.
Unlike 9/11 conspiracy theorists, I don't claim that the government had direct involvement in the attacks or even complete knowledge of them. But they knew something was going to happen and could have acted to prevent it. 9/11 was the largest intelligence failure since Pearl Harbor.
Terrorists tried to bring the buildings down before and failed, so this time I don't doubt they made sure that their plot was going to succeed. Even if the buildings survived the plane hits, anyway, they would have had to have been demolished because their structural integrity would have been questionable at best. But it wouldn't have suited the terrorists' cause to let the buildings stand at all. Again, there were some smart people involved in the attacks and it wouldn't have taken much extra for them to make sure the buildings were going to collapse.
There's elements of both. I look at 9/11 as having a lot of parallels with the Reichstag fire of 1933. I have no doubt that 9/11 was a terrorist attack, just that even if it was just the fact that they turned a blind eye to the planning and setup for it, the government was an accomplice. I also think the plot was significantly more elaborate than just 19 guys hijacking 4 airliners and flying them into buildings. We have excellent intelligence agencies, both civilian and military, and there is absolutely no way that multiple agencies didn't know that something was going to happen.
Just look at the destruction caused, and the way it happened. Especially the World Trade Center. The WTC towers collapsed in a manner more consistent with controlled demolition than a random large explosion high up on the towers. The collapse started from near the bottom of the towers and was almost perfectly vertical. Those towers were actually built to withstand being hit by a plane (I believe a 707 or a 727) and surviving. One of the towers survived a large truck bomb being detonated near the central core in the basement. Fragile buildings they certainly were not. If the plane hits caused the collapse then we would have seen the part of the buildings around the hit sites start collapsing first and the upper parts of the building above the hit sites would have tilted at least slightly towards the direction the planes came from. It would not have taken a tremendous amount of explosives to bring down the buildings if they were very carefully placed, maybe 100 to 150lbs, and a couple of guys could have easily come in and placed those. Given that the terrorists accused of pulling off the hijackings weren't exactly dummies and obviously had tremendous resources at their disposal, I'm certain they could have pulled something like that off. Again, there is no way that our government didn't know about it. Whether they consciously chose to let it happen or foolishly ignored their intelligence doesn't matter since the results were the same.
The government response after 9/11 is what is still most alarming to me and where it parallels the Reichstag fire. The executive branch used 9/11 to gain incredible amounts of power. It tilted the government from a reasonably balanced system between the 3 branches to an almost authoritarian one with a clearly dominant executive branch. It would have been unimaginable before 9/11 that the government would have such broad, largely unchecked powers. It is scary for me to think about what would have happened if 9/11 never happened but such an attack occurred during the lowest point of this current recession. We could have been the next Germany (mind you, without the horrors of the Holocaust), with our legislature and citizens handing over essentially absolute power to the executive branch out of desperation and fear. People often forget that Hitler and the National Socialist party were all voted into office, the Reichstag voted to hand Hitler absolute power and effectively suspend their constitution, and that the Nazis had tremendous support from the German citizenry. I can't help but mention 1984, also, since many of the themes of that book have parallels in our current society. We've always been at war with terrorism, just like Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.
even if it had melted, there would still have been traces... When the plane in Athens went down, at full speed, from 32,000 feet, the tail section and engines were still intact. There was NO Debris from the impact in Pennsylvania. That's TOTALLY inconsistent with EVERY other airliner crash.
if the Zapruder tape can show Kennedy getting shot twice and the official autopsy says he was shot once, then don't think for one minute that the populace can't be lied to.
but there's clear evidence that the US knew the attack on Pearl Harbor was going to happen. I think as citizens its our right and our duty to question the government and look at the possibilities. I'm not saying I buy into all of the conspiracy theories (I believe that we did land on the moon), but I think that with 9/11 there were too many loose ends for the government to not have had some hand in it.
It was a terrorist attack. Plain and simple. No one in our government would conspire to have so many people killed that day. Yeah, I don't trust our political system, but there's no way they'd go that far.
I do believe it was a terrorist attack, however I also believe that the bush administration directed the pain and outrage inaccuratly to justify the war in Iraq.
