WWJD? Incite Hate Crimes Against LGBT People, according to this "Pastor"
From Pam's House Blend - Front Page
11/6/2009 9:05 AM - 558 views
The furious explosion of nutjobs over the passage of the Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act continues...

Dr%20Gary%20Cass-thumb-160x220.jpgOur old fundie friend, Pastor Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (yeah, that's clue number one about his point of view), is back at his gay hating ways.  But this time he's taking it to a whole new level.  Cass and crew are headed to DC on November 16th to protest the Hate Crimes Act in front of the Department of Justice. Their tactic?

They'll be calling for violence against LGBT people to try and get arrested so they can "prove" the Hate Crimes Act infringes on their God given right to beat up fags:
The "Rally for Religious Freedom" in front of the Department of Justice in Washington is intended to force Attorney General Eric Holder either to address the issues or be put in a position of ignoring those who say they are violating the provisions of the federal law, Cass said.  "We're basically going to defy the law, and challenge it," Cass told WND. "We're going to declare the whole counsel of God, including those parts that some may consider 'inciting a hate crime' to see if the attorney general is going to come down and arrest a group of peaceful clergy exercising their First Amendment rights

Gary "Let's Incite Hate Crimes for God" Cass has lots of practice passing around the haterade.

Cass is the former head of the Center For Reclaiming America at the late Reverend James Kennedy's Anti-Gay Coral Ridge Ministries. Readers may remember Cass as the charmer who called former head of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Matt Foreman a:
radical homosexual activist that slandered the reputations of Christian ministers
when Foreman spoke out against the hate being preached from pulpits after the slaying of transgender teen Simmie Williams Jr.

Cass is also the kind-hearted soul that blasted Bishop Gene Robinson for being openly gay and "bastardizing the church and Bible" at a speaking event my husband hosted at his university. He was also one of Jim "RoboPotty to stop the gays" Naugle's, the former anti-gay mayor of Fort Lauderdale, biggest supporters during the battle with the South Florida LGBT community.

Not to mention he thinks they need guns in churches to fight the infidels...

I have had quite a few face-to-face meetings with Cass and can attest that he truly hates us.  He also loves the media.  So I guess this public fomenting of violence is a match made in twisted fundie heaven for him.

Pastor Cass has every right to espouse his hate-filled bile... and we have every right to call him out for the violent bigot he is.  Hate Crimes legislation has nothing to do with speech, religious beliefs, or thoughts- no matter how disgusting they may be.

In the end, however, this "protest" simply shines a light on the radical, bigoted, violent agenda of these crusaders.

Take a good look, America.

you know, i read more about this from other articles, and there's something that i don't think is made very clear in this version of it:

they're not holding a "hate crime rally" per se, but they're going down to the department and spouting the gospel — the parts calling homos sinners, i assume — and their logic is that if they get arrested, the hate crime laws are going too far. after all, they're just exercising their federally protected freedoms of assembly and religion, right?

well, not quite...the part that you WON'T hear on fox news, and where my good money lies, is that they'll be getting in the face of everyone who walks within a 10 yard radius, calling them sinners and fag-supporters who will burn in hell. then, when a security officer approaches to calmly and quietly ask them to kindly keep it down or please take it outside, they'll scream and froth at him, probably spitting everywhere in the process, about how he's a fag-lover who probably took it up the ass from his father. finally, on the escort out of the building, they're likely to go kicking and screaming, saying some shit about their religious freedoms being trampled on, and calling for the repeal of hate crime laws.

Doug, unfortunately, the haters find it easy to proof-text justifications for their hate, and will paint any opposition to themselves as engaging in "spiritual warfare." IMHO, the haters tend to be the bully type to begin with, and it is always, even for adults, hard to be the one that stands up to the bully.

I had a similar experience, Marvin- that's why I told my minister that I was "done" with them, and sought a different spiritual path

My main issue with some of the more moderate and "enlightened" Christians don't stand up and speak up enough when their misguided leaders and/or followers speak their filth- at times, their lack of action is very complacent in nature.

Those of you who see my occasionally sharp anti-christian comments can see its source. Mikal, while loving, decent christians (like you seem to be) are out there, my background put me around lots of them that think, talk and behave like Cass. He represents what in my experience has been the norm for christians.

I for one grow very weary of these media hounds from the narrow and disrepresentative ranks of American Fundamentalism who transparently co-opt an otherwise peaceful religion as a front for their rabid social agenda. They appall the true disciples of Jesus Christ. Let this guy wallow in hate and reap what he sows; I'm going to tie on my tie and go direct my Christian choir in an anthem to the glory, love and compassion of Jesus.

As a Christian and gay, I could honestly say that I do not serve a God who operates like this. God is a LOVING, compassionate and faithful God. This guy needs to re examine his life and his Christianity. He is purely a lost individual and I pray that God helps him.

1 Corinthians 13
New International Version

If I speak in the toungs of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 1 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

He also told them this parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

I am 19, gay, and a christian. I realized many years ago the being ashamed of who I am was a foolish thing. God made me, God loves me, and in knowing this I have come to love me. This man is no christian. This man does the same thing to Christianity that the 9/11 terrorists did to the muslim community. He is ignorant of the very God he speaks for. I do not however hate his man. I pity him.

I cannot believe that someone has convince themselves that this moronic idea makes any sense. What a DUMB ASS? No wonder other countries look at America and think we're uneducated. Look at these A-hole and the stupid shit they let fall outta their mouths.
I believe I should have the constitution right to hit someone in the face who says something so stupid that they would be doing humanity a favor by eliminating themselves from the general population! Someone is clearly trying to get a Darwin Award, and I am giving him my nomination.

We live in a free country? So why can't gays be betroathrd in every state? Why is it legal to say your going to kill someone of a group type and never be omvestigated for it? Or even be considered a domestic terrorist? Why are we not protected under the same rights ast other citizens of this union? He is protesting against our rights and so are all the people he associates with? So who in your gay community will march against him? Will it be you?

What a fucker! We Live in a free country, mabey us gay people should be free to choose who we marry and who we fuck. Would somebody just shoot this jackass in the face already and show him what violence is all about. Would that be a hate crime? I guess all the gay people could protest it.

Hopefully he'll just prove that the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion is untouched. And even more hopefully no one actually answers the call. But if someone does, I hope that martyr-wanna-be enjoys the new law, which will only touch him, not the people inciting him.

Like all false prophets - people who are in the public eye who who judge others, and in private, engage in the same activities for which they publicly judge others - will fall. No matter how virulently people try to hide the truth it always comes out in one way or another. This man will be exposed for the hypocrite he is. Just wait and see.

"We're basically going to defy the law, and challenge it," -Pastor Cass.

-Defying the law and challenging it are 2 different things. The latter has been done already (i.e. held up in Congress for 10yrs) and the former will land you a seat in jail.

Is there a counter protest?

oh adam, i have no intentions of going and shouting anything ...i just plan on my usual counter protest: running up and making out right in front of them

usually this is enough to spark a reaction, and in this case, i have no problems defending myself whatsoever.

Um I'm a Christian and I've heard it said why don't the intelligent non bible thumping Christians ever speak out aganst their zealot religious counterparts. Well I'm no pastor or leader in the Christian world but, for those that would listen, this man and his followers are dead wrong. And if they actually read the bible and the new testament maybe they would see verses like 'love your neighbor as yourself' or the story of the good Samaritan, or how about when Jesus let a prostitute wash his feet? Or where it says don't worry about the speck in someone elses eye untill you get the log out of your own (this is referring to sin). What these zealots need to realize is that they have become the Pharisees of the time. For those who live in DC, I think they want you to show up angry and loud and violent, that would help spur them on, but I think pulling a John Lennon during this time would get much more attention then any violence could. Although we all have a right to be pissed at these people let's just all do like John and 'imagine'. Peace for now I'm going back to bed.
