GOP Political Pundits Caught Dissing Gov. Sarah Palin on Tape September 3, 2008
by Jonas Oliver
Los Angeles, CA - Since John McCain named Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, hers has been the most talked about name among political pundits both on and off the camera.
Today Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan and former John McCain adviser and MSNBC contributor Mike Murphy were unwittingly caught on tape expressing their true feelings about Gov. Sarah Palin and they were anything but positive.
Noonan called McCain’s choice of Palin “political bullshit,” while Murphy diminished the republican nominee’s choices by calling them "cynical" and "gimmicky." Meanwhile according to a transcript of the tape up on the Huffington Post, host and political commentator Chuck Todd concurred with Murphy’s assessment.
Take a listen:
And here’s the actual transcript:
Chuck Todd: Mike Murphy, lots of free advice, we'll see if Steve Schmidt and the boys were watching. We'll find out on your blackberry. Tonight voters will get their chance to hear from Sarah Palin and she will get the chance to show voters she's the right woman for the job Up next, one man who's already convinced and he'll us why Gov. Jon Huntsman. (cut away)
Peggy Noonan: Yeah.
Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys—this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it's not gonna work. And...
PN: It's over.
MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.
CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.
PN: Saw Kay this morning.
CT: Yeah, she's never looked comfortable about this...
MM: They're all bummed out.
CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?
PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this—excuse me—political bullshit about narratives...
CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.
MM: I totally agree.
PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it.
MM: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.
CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.
MM: Yeah.
Gov. Sarah Palin will address the Republican convention tonight at 10:30PM EST.

he just blocked you. connexion didn't do anything. shane is still around just like me, doug, and everyone else who has criticized you in the past.
it's called free speech.
you sure are a sue happy kind of person, aren't you?
shane,
hal does this every few months. don't be concerned.
The framers of the constitution were very clear about several things that will make this country a great one include near the top of the list... separation of church and state and a civilian commander in chief.
The McCain Palin ticket violet both of these precepts with Palin being an agent of intolerance who self righteously dictates morality to others and justifies their atrocities by claiming they are Gods will... Sarah Palins belief system includes claims that terror attacks on the state of Israel are Gods Judgement against the jews who refuse to accept Jesus as their lord and savior and that the Iraqi war is a messianic mission from God. Yet as the agents of intolerance always do, they cherry pick which of the bible teachings they want to root themselves in and which don't serve their agenda.
Jesus said that we have a responsibility to take care of those who are least amongst us... and yet she line item vetoed funds to disabled children and assistance to unwed mothers just for starters. The GOP regularly eliminate assistance programs for those individuals in need and replace them with corporate welfare programs. Jesus also preached that God does not judge and we shall not judge either... and yet the christian agents of intolerance judge others on everything. These judgements are then used for legislating and as weapons against anyone who lives a different life than they or sees the world differently than them.
Now on the issue of the Commander in Chief being a civilian... well its this separation that gives the president the objectivity to see both military and non military options and serves the President in finding diplomatic options. Great Presidents with no military experience include... John Adams,Thomas Jefferson,
John Quincy Adams, William Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt & Bill Clinton. What all of those leaders had in common was having key cabinet members who were indeed military leaders.
I'm pretty stoked about the polls this week - Rasmussen shows McCain/Palin at +1, which is probably the weakest convention bounce in American history and when it drops back down 6 points like they always do, Obama/Biden will be +5.
Gallup shows McCain +3, wheras Obama got to +8 on the monday after the Democratic National Convention.
And USA Today/Gallup is always an outlier because of its weird methodology in determining enthusiasm and party ID.
Hal, Thanks for the comments. I have already seen that Shane never addresses any of the facts...he particularly doesn't address the gay issues, and so..he is a mess. Oh, wait! Shane! You can read this right? Damn! Sorry! I meant this to be only read by Shane!! LOL
Another thing Shane, if you're wanting to "call out" someone over their looks, you have to be able to show yourself, or else, you appear to just be an idiot. Is that REALLY how you want to be perceived?
Hal, and all, I can say this about Shane: He does represent a part of the American landscape, and that's too bad. I mean, the reality is that these people do NOT read, do not research..and really don't care about the rights of gay men and women, even tho' they themselves are gay. There is this deep rooted self hatred, as is seen in Shane, and he is a broken record. It's sad to watch. I don't know that this attitude of his began with serving in any armed forces. He's from West Virginny, and ...if you've never been there, you would not know the depth of ignorance in the Appalachian mountains of that section.
So, he just wants to attack, but as is the case with most right wingers, they attack without understanding, and without doing the legwork of research... It's the reality show legacy....he's a part of the TMZ generation.
The polling reports on what they call likely voters. Likely voters are people who voted in the last election cycle.
Not counted as a likely voter are young voters who are registering and getting involved for the first time. These voters are almost all Obama supporters
Not counted are people who dont have land telephone lines... in other words people under 40... again majority Obama voters
Not counted are people who left the process and have been inspired to get back into the process and vote again after sitting out one or more cycles. This grouping includes Black voters, inner city voters, poor voters and progressive activists that had become frustrated by what the government had become... again majority Obama supporters.
Not counted... people who refuse to be polled or dont have time to be bothered with Pollsters... In other words younger voters.... again Obama voters.
Its very possible this race isnt even close... but the polling methods wont tell you this. Also possible that the truth will come out about the lying party (GOP) and not only will independents go running from the Liar ticket (McCain Palin), but so will the moderate republicans that have become as disgusted with the bush cheney policies and disasters as the rest of us informed and educated folks.
But enjoy your illusion... that bubble will burst soon enough... Just as the illusion of McCain not having early onset senility and that Palin has any judgement, experience, integrity or humanity. She is one frightening religious hypocrite with ideas that make Reverent Wright seem like a cross between mother Theresa and Santa Claus.
For those doing homework.... From this point forward... The McCain/ Palin ticket is to be known as the lying ticket. They call Obama an elitist... Lets call them what they are self righteous, liars devoid of integrity.
Ill follow over the next few weeks with McCain or Palin lies... what they said, and how its not true... Lets call those posts the LIE REPORT... please include your examples with documentation... the key to asking for documentation is that eliminates the other side from lying about our candidates... they never support their claims they just float more lies.
Shane, if you don't like "heartbeat away from the Presidency" would you prefer "melanoma away from the Presidency"?
McCain has had several recurrences of cancerous melanomas over the years. As I understand it, each incidence increases the odds of further ones. But I am not an oncologist.
Shane, Okay, so let me get this straight with you. McBush fought his brave war so that we ALL could have equal rights, except for of course, the gay people, because they're not so important to you. So, because you don't want to have equal rights, then none of us should have them. So, by that argument, because FALIN wants no women to have the right to choose, then...Women shouldn't have that right because she's the one you want!!!!!
I think it is more than clear who you believe McBush fought for, and for what reasons. My question is: why are you on a GAY SITE, touting your propaganda??? Why are you bothering with gay men?
And excuse me, but...where would you come up with the idiotic logic that "at this point in time" there is no reason for the government to make "drastic" changes in gay rights???? And, along those lines...when did it become "DRASTIC" for any one of us to have EQUAL rights???
I guess by that same argument, it was really stupid for the government to allow blacks those same equal rights, OR women to vote....drastic changes!!!!
Sure, the fat white straight christian man doesn't need any of those drastic changes in his life. That would make them...uncomfortable, huh?
Please don't insult any of us, with that attitude that the States will take care of giving gay men and women equal marriage rights.... Most states are filled with idiots! Sometimes idiots have to be pushed out of the way to make way for those equal rights.
And if you find that to be unimportant, then...what the hell are you doing in this country and what the hell are you defending US for??? The white christian Hetero right?????
Shane, If you're going to do the GOP thing and bear down on one thought of mine, then..this is ridiculous conversation. I SAID what I meant to say. I used the one word "ask" in a moment of thinking more politely...but, YOU know exactly what I am saying unless you're just too dense like so many others who believe that Falin is an equal opportunity woman, which she is not, by choice!!! Here, does this work for you so that you can move on? I HONOR women who stand up for their RIGHTS to be equal to men, and who STAND UP for their rights to CHOOSE what to do with their bodies and their lives, instead of cowtowing to male chauvanist religious zealots who want to dictate what they should believe and how they should believe it! Does that make it easier for you?
As it seems that you only DON'T understand "politics" when we refer to Clinton's history and NOT McBUSH...I will say it again. Clinton, because of political reasons and needing to pass other laws included in the bill for Don't ask, don't tell...had to sign it into law at that time.
But, I did notice that you refused to comment on all the facts I have against your little McBushie...and also all the thoughts I have on your being gay and fighting for the man and FEMALE who want to take your rights away from you...
You didn't seem to see that hypocrisy in your words or...if you did, you can't refute what I am saying. I will say it again: McBush went to war, a useless war that we lost, and he came back like millions, wounded for life, because of idiotic Nixon and his ilk or GOP's. You say you want him in, because he fought for your rights....BUT HE IS FIGHTING TO GET RID OF YOUR RIGHTS, and so is his female idiot, Failin. So, at least if you're going to raise the flag and salute it, be truthful in your statements about the MAN behind the real big military myth.
Shane, when you report incorrectly, when you speak like a true Fox entertainer, it is irritating. When you make incorrect statements and I read them I disagree...if that scares you and you think it's defensive, then...be scared.
Palin IS a "female" idiot. I chose my words very carefully. Believe me. NO woman who has fought for their rights wants anything to do with her. She believes that women should be subservient to their men folk. Please don't preach to me about her being a modern woman... She represents a lot of oppressed FEMALES who actually believe that Bible crap that they should be behind their men FOLK. I honor women who ask to be equal. She does not, nor does she want other women to be. And as I have said, she CERTAINLY does NOT want you to have any equal rights..NONE!!! You are satan to her and her church.
You can say you aren't ashamed of who you are, but, let's check out that definition. Whether you want to admit it or not, any gay man who votes for an old fart who is all for taking away gay couples' rights to adopt (when there are so many thousands of American children unloved and unwanted) is unjust and hate filled... McOld and Failin ALSO want you to not have equal rights in your lifetime to marry who you want. They want it all to go away, particularly FALIN!! What is wrong with gay men like you who just push this under the carpet and believe that everything is okay. Here's the analogy: You go on and on about McBush fighting so that you have your rights, and yet...You want to vote for him so that he can pressure people into taking your VERY RIGHTS away!!!!!! Is this not absolutely ridiculous?
Now, about Clinton and don't ask don't tell. As everyone knows by now, (and it's tiring to bring it up like you did again) but, he had to sign that bill because of the other parts of the bill that he had to bring into law. He has stated many times that he regreted doing that. But, at least it was something, within the homophobic military. He is all for lifting that ban now. You are having to HIDE your sexuality on this site, because of people JUST LIKE PALIN and just like McBush!!!! Their religions fill lthem with such fear that they are willing to put into LAW..get it? Not in their churches, but into LAW that you are wrong, and that you do NOT deserve equality!!!! And yet, you BLINDLY want them back in office just like the 8 years prior! I just don't get that form of self-hatred.
And what are you talking about??? You went off on old Wars for some strange reason...i cannot even comprehend this.
There is nothing in any article about the Gallup polls that states that McOld achieved his bump at a fast pace...you have got to turn off Hannity.
Oh, and another little item Shane, You really do just listen to Hannity, I think. But, in my doing REAL research, regarding the recent Gallup polls, or "poles" as you so adeptly put it, here are the FACTS about those polls as well. I hope there aren't too many big words for you to read...if so I can try and explain it to you.
"McCain’s 5-point to 6-point bounce so far, like Obama’s, remains at par with historical expectations. In the 22 major-party conventions since 1964, the nominee walked away with, on average in most years, a 5-point to 6-point uptick in Gallup’s polls. The presidential polling will likely remain in flux until the middle of next week."
Shane, you need to take some remedial reading courses before jumping in there. Before I continue..where are your photos? Are you "afraid" of getting caught on here because you live in a place where being gay is shameful??????? That's how your dea little Palin wants to have it!! So you are voting for her...nice. And I have NO idea where you have asssss sumed that I have a sexist view of women. If I did, I would never even consider that IDIOT PALIN since she wants to take a woman's rights away because of her own SKEWED RELIGIOUS belief!!!! How dare you tell me that? You're just some sort of gnat and you're mildly irritating in your rants.
There is no question in the tone of your rant that you are a racist, and that's the way it is for back woodsmen who can't even spell the word "polls"...
Yes, McBush was captured by the Vietcong etc. etc. etc. Do you know anything about that war? Do you know that lives were lost in HUGE numbers and the war was even more idiotic than Bush's Iraq debacle??? Do you know that NONE OF ANY OF OUR RIGHTS would have been lost in that WAR??? Did you know that we LOST that war and yet, I still have my rights as a patriotic American???? Get down off that Hannity/O'Reilly flag pole and make some sense.
Now about your little McBush...
Factisabled VETERANS give him a 20% rating on his voting record for VETERANS, the worse score among 100 senators. Iraq/Afghanistan vets of America gave him a D.
Fact: Scottsdale, Az. police reports that have since been expunged reveal John McCain physically abused his drug-addict wife Cindy on numerous occasions?
FACT: McBush came back from Vietnam, cheated on his first wife, before leaving her and his 3 children, to marry a rich Heiress 17 years his junior. He got the marriage license for his 2nd wife while still married to his first.
FACT: Americans spend $340 MILLION every single day in Iraq. McBush says it's okay to keep really BRAVE troops there for up to a hundred years.
Please don't wave that flag quite so high while accusing Obama of being a drug dealer, and while accusing me of being a sexist. You FIRST need to get your facts straight.
Shane, This TIRED "inexperience" card has just got to go. You can travel through history and find man after man who did NOT have years and years of experience before they were elected. Is that REALLY all you guys have???
And to TRY and explain this again to you so that you will understand...NO ONE is comparing Obama to Palin. What we are comparing is HOW much you guys YELLED about Obama's so called "inexperience" and then, when you guys brought Palin in to cover the NUMBER TWO spot, she didn't need to have really ANY experience other than running a town of 900, and getting elected to be Governor for a year and a half!!!!!
AND, BY THE WAY, in case you haven't noticed...EXPERIENCED has only given McBush the savvy to flip flop more than the Moose Palin blew away in those lovely photos. If EXPEREINCE means that one should follow the HORROR that was the past 8 years, then...GIVE ME COMPLETE inexperience. You guys walk around and find words like "Maverick" and are totally in denial by the fact that MCBush has only voted alongside BUSH for 8 years!!!! You guys NOT only put us in an amazing economic mess, but also caused us to be hated throughout the world, AND brought on a WAR that was useless!!!!! It was just payback for Bush's daddy to kill Saddam.
Do you REALLY believe that McBush wanted Palin??? No, that is where you're all screwed up. McOld just wants to be President. He HATES the fact that some idiot female is stealing his thunder, and hopefully it will all come back to bite you all in the ass, but, he's sitting back and doing nothing because...he's a candy ass and wants the job.
Speaking of screen doors in submarines, the very idea that any one of you think that McBush is going to be some sort of maverick, and he's going to stand up against the VERY PEOPLE who put him there, is...amazingly idiotic. What planet are you guys from this time around???
Marc, Thanks for your insight in presenting OUR case to Shane and to Brett, but unfortunately, they don't want to hear any part of the truth; just the sad "fair and Balanced" skewed news that comes from Fox News etc.
By the way SHANE, i know this might come as a really strange concept, but most of us research these candidates in a lot of ways. You can't really research a candidate on Connexions. But, thanks for putting that analogy in, so that it would sound like we're a bunch of idiots. That IS the way the GOP does it. That IS the way that you have done it as well, in speaking against Obama. Don't think for a second that your comments don't subtly come from a racist point of view. It's disgusting in 2008, but...there it is.
And BRETT. The Idiot Palin in her very own (yeah, right!) speech at the GOP Convention, did NOTHING but compare herself to Obama... I don't even put her in the same State as any of the candidates. She's just a patsy and the ridiculous argument here, is that I'd bet the farm that YOU, Brett, had NO idea who this person was a week ago. Sadly, the generation of reality TV, and instant stars has brought itself to the political forum. As my sister said, regarding the OLD GOP Farts who run you guys, "they (Rove/GOP men in charge sans McCain) just sat around and said, just go out there and find some cunt...just get a cunt with evangelical views and that'll do." Any woman with ANY sort of intelligence is completely insulted by this choice. Can you be that naive to think that Palin has ANY qualifications to be in the highest political position in the country, albeit the world?????
Go view the TONS of You Tube videos on her Assembly of God church! Go watch her speak about her religion. If you don't find the views she proclaims with her church to be frightening and equally frightening that you or any other GAY man would dismiss who she REALLY is to vote for her, then this country HAS gone to hell in a basket or whatever the fuck she said the other night.
Palin is experienced? I live near Mexico... does that make me an expert on international relations?
As far as experience goes... not all experience is good experience. McCain has been one of the most influenced and investigated members of the senate, has been implicated in major scandals including having the title of one of the Keating Five, one of the biggest financial scandals and coverups in our nations history. He didnt stop there and is tied to Jack Abramov and virtually every other lobby scandal that has either hit or will hit once real oversight is brought to govt.
Not all experience is good... but if you wanna play the experience card... Obama and Biden have more... way more... and far fewer scandals.
Plus get this... they arent implicated in criminal and financial scandals like the GOP ticket counterparts.
I know gut reactions are common. But seriously guys... the facts just dont support any of your arguments... but that doesnt really matter much to you does it?
The truth has not left John McCains mouth in decades. He is and has been implicated in some of the biggest corruption scandals in our nations history, no stump speech he gives can pass the fact check test and he says the opposite of his background, voting record and agenda at every turn because he knows his agenda is so toxic.
He then goes out and picks church lady as his running mate.
If you held McCain to whatever standard you seem to be holding Obama to, you would be embarrassed that you even considered a vote for him and his tragic agenda.
I know during the primaries Hillary said a lot of things about Obama to revive her campaign. She has since said very clearly that Obama is way more like her than not and has her 100% support. She will spend the next 2 months stumping around the country desperately trying to undo the damage she created with her pitiful campaign staffers that failed her, the party and the progressive movement on every level.
Just because someone tells a lie about Obama doesn't make it true... but fact check McCain and it tells a very different story.
Little confused... your profile says your political leaning is to the left and then you post a smear story from a right wing smear site.
Truth is McCain campaign spent a week in Minnesota, not talking about themselves, but lying about the democratic agenda, lying about the Obama agenda and smearing both Obama and Biden. They have said that they are going to make this an election about personalities and character and not about the issues.
Thats because they fall on the wrong side of every issue, have aligned themselves with both the Bush agenda and some of the most dangerous right wing and religious fanatics in the country. They have also dug their feet in to protect the interests of their high dollar, powerful corporate lobby friends.
They are living in opposite land where the guy who is most tied to lobby money, corruption and influence brings in the governor most tied to pork barrel earmarks and then announces how they will bring dignity and transparency back to government... huh?
They have brought the axis of evil back front and center
They support more war and more death.. only with a twist this time... Its Gods will that we kill... right gov palin?
they support extending tax cuts to the corporations and uber wealthy, Obama supports tax cuts to the other 85% of us poor and middle class... then attack Obama as the guy who wants to raise our taxes.
Who heard the chanting? drill more, drill now? Oil is the primary financial backer of both of these politicians. They don't have any meaningful answers to our energy or economic problems... but they will on the other hand have the backs of their friends in big oil. While big oil has broken every quarterly record for corporate profitability, they have also enjoyed hundreds of millions more in tax incentives and exemptions. I guess in opposite land you reward those who crash the economy and steal from the American people.
"could you get your buddies to send out little magical treat for the McBush/Failin ticket?"
Since it would serve a higher, selfless purpose, I will see what they can "cook" up, lol
Lol- watch it, Bruce. One of my closest friends lives 3 blocks from me, and is a Santarian priest
(I am teasing! Except about the priest thing, THAT'S for real, lol)
Todd, That's cool that you knew about Landover, but a lot of people don't, and the brilliance of that site, is exactly what you said...that people REALLY do talk like that. That is what this guy has pulled from all of his sources...so, although it is FAKE, yes...it is a very strange reflection of a lot of creepy people....
I think somebody ought to make up a fake site for the Log Cabin Republicans....one would have plenty of fodder just from these comments for mocking them....
Of the 18 million people who voted or caucused for Hillary, most had agendas... womans rights, pro choice, gay rights, workers rights, environmental concerns, energy concerns, wanting an end to the Iraqi occupation... Of the 18 million people who voted for or caucused for Barack Obama they had agendas too... the same list as above plus doing something about washington corruption and transparency.
Most of these voters came to their candidate because of their agenda and which candidate they felt would best serve it or that they most trusted to serve it.
So most of the Hillary voters were not just up for grabs for any vagina... in fact Hillary being a woman probably didn't even factor for a huge percentage of her voters... Im sure some came to her out of respect for the Clinton legacy, some because she had a well financed campaign and was the most familiar name in the race, some because of the Diva factor, and yes some for no other reason than the vagina.
So the Hillary voters like the Obama voters and yes even the McCain voters don't belong to them and often don't have exclusive allegiance to them... more to the party, the agenda and a host of other factors.
Now all that said... some of the Diva and Va J J voters refused to move onto another candidate until Hillary gave them permission to do so. Hillary's work is not done yet though. She will continue to have a huge role in an Obama administration and in forming his team and platform, but she needs to stay out there. Some are still not moving over to Obama because the damage she did to Obama in the primaries is still being held onto by some.
Also Sarah Palin who has been quoted calling Hillary a whiner and other colorful comments about her character is now praising her to trick some of these holdout voters into supporting the anti choice, anti womans rights, anti environment, anti change, anti gay rights, endless war, oil oil oil ticket.
Hillary like her friend Joe Biden are both veteran attack dogs and can really expose Palin while leaving McCain to Obama and the truth and to make sure they know just how insulting Palin is being assuming that she can trick people into the opposite agenda with a few witty lines and shameful or missing record.
The pieces are in place for a big Democratic victory come November... but they need to keep working together and keep the pressure on. The media doesn't want to report the truth... they want to hold out for the gotchas and emotional stories. Its the Democratic leadership and every one of us charged with getting the truth out and getting progressive minded people to the polls.
I feel since the majority of women and blue collar workers voted for Hillary and since she was not nominated leaves those people up for grabs. So, the McCain camp thought hey lets get a women as the VP, maybe the american voters will vote for him.. This is a very transparent campain on for the McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. I guess the republicans will stoop to any level just to get votes.. HA HA HA
The blue states are the ones that people live in with much higher density of electoral votes. Most of the red states are sparsely populated with lots of open spaces.
Palin's speech was the most hilarious thing ever! when I was watching it, I imagined her as a twinkie. Her whole speech was like eating empty calories... actually, almost everything I hear from the republican party is empty calories. ...No wonder I haven't been gaining any muscle weight...
p.s.- Can anyone see the difference between the democratic enthusiasm compared to that of the rnc this election? Finally someone I like is doing well.

the electoral college is where it's at and obama is doing just fine.

kerry,
i don't mean to "serve" you on connexion.org but we've met...at jr's...about 2 years ago.
Obama still has huge advantages on the electoral map. Factor in the fact that national polls over state the importance of old voters and all but ignore the young voters will line up in HUGE numbers for Obama and change and you can see that polling is not an accurate method of tracking elections.
The youth has been energized and figure to vote in numbers that hasn't been seen since vietnam. These voters often don't have landlines and thus are never polled.
Obama is doing far better than the media would have you believe. Most people arent buying the garbage that is pouring out of McCain and Palin. Give the Clintons and Biden a chance to weigh in on a grand scale and perhaps the emperor will be shown to have no clothes. He hasn't been the brave POW in a long time. He has morphed into corrupt politician a long long time ago.
With the internet and youtube the truth is out there in a form that people can get to it.
Often times fake news or fake sites give you some insight as to where people are. I mean millions of young voters get their news from John Stewart and the Daily Show.
While he takes the stories over the top... the root of them are real clips of real politicians contradicting themselves. When McCain talks about how he warned people about the dangers of war and how some people against his advice moved forward on an Iraq war plan... it all sounds good. When you go back and find dozens of press conferences where he was cheering on the movement against Iraq and boasting about the war plan it tells a very different story.
When you show a mock site about scary religious cults... it reminds you that scary religious cults do exist and that those frightening ideas, agendas and judgements are being passed on to children. Sarah Palin, James Dobson, Pat Buchanan, Rod Parsley, George Bush, Lindsay Graham, Mike Huckabee, Ralph Reed and Ted Haggard all remind us how scary allowing religion into politics can be and the destructive nature of their agendas.
"hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...Landover Baptist is a fake site..."
I am aware of that, Bruce- but there are probably plenty of children in schools (mostly in those "christian" private schools) that ARE being taught to think like that- either by their dumbass redneck parents, or by dumbass redneck teachers
"When McCain introduced came on stage after Palin's speech, he never once looked her in the eyes - even during the hug - he avoided eye contact."
Lol, that's because he tried going on that new fangled "world wide web" and checked out the vid of him on Youtube, where he was looking at Palin's ass while nervously twirling his wedding ring
"I got distracted by David's pics"
Nah, Kerry- Justin's got a better body, not to mention a better personality

Gloria Steinem wrote an awesome opinion for the LATimes today.
Here's the money quote:
"This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie."
"And then every time McCain talked about anything other than being a scared, war hero, his eyes were down and shifting - he doesn't believe what he's saying."
Austin, I'm glad you noticed that too. I thought it was just me. Also if you watch how frequently he blinked in the section where he was promising things (more blinking = belief that you are saying is untrue) at one point I thought he was having a seizure.
Palin has that "oh geez, don't ya know" accent like Bobby's mom in the 90's cartoon Bobby's World! and the crazy wife who gets kidnapped in 'Fargo'. "Minnesota nice" i think its called. Yea, it sounds like she knows exactly whats on "gods" mind. Theyre like BFF according to her church.

I have this nervous feeling that Americans will turn the way of the Ford election within the Senate...People say one thing and vote opposite to their words
Oh, Christian..It's actually 6,000 years..(Earth's age) and fossils and dinosaur bones were put here because god wanted to fuck with us..True story!

People who throw the word "patriotic" around a lot seem to be the least so in my opinion. Like Bible thumpers they pick and choose the parts they want to believe in. When the US Constitution inconveniently blocks something they want to do (i.e., wiretapping, holding people without trial, etc.) they look for workarounds. True patriots believe in all of the democratic institutions and not just the ones that push their agendas.

"patriotism is overrated. i can love my country and not to masturbate to it. "
That doesn't sound very pro-American, NSA be warned

dan,
i agree and you don't have to worry about it. it's a complete scare tactic to use on their sheep and it seems to work. without a doubt, everyone should question the govt.
9/5/2008 12:01 PM
Dan
Todd -- don't succumb to that stupid definition of patriotism. The right has worked very hard to make us think if we question what they are doing we aren't patriotic. Fuck that. I think it's very patriotic to question them and their insane policies.
When you really "love" something (like your country), you want to see it succeed, not fail.
9/5/2008 12:00 PM
Dan
Christopher -- at least Obama doesn't appear to be a total hot-head. I'm *real* thrilled about having a man who never lets a fact get in the way of being pissed at someone and a woman who thinks if you're not a born-again Christian you aren't worthy in charge of the military, let alone nukes.

patriotism is overrated. i can love my country and not to masturbate to it.

At least Obama would still be awake with the nukes. McCain will have to nap too often.
Hell this ticket is more patriotic and American then Obama's. I doubt Palin sat and listened to "God Damn America" for 20 years.
McCain's biography is a historian's dream. A true patriotic American. It's better than George Washington's biography. Then we got Obama...155 days in the senate, voted "present" everytime and curses his country - yeah let's hand him our nukes. No comparison resume to resume.
9/5/2008 11:35 AM
todd
dan,
ha ha.
yeah every time i'm in the "situation room", i immediately turn around and walk out.
9/5/2008 11:33 AM
Dan
For sure. The fawning media. I want to punch Wolf Blitzer every time I see him speak. What an ass. I wonder what Anderson Cooper thinks of him.
and the media will give him a pass... Only Olberman or Maddow will break down the speach and point out how their past comments and past voting records dont match their words. The rest of America will be allowed to believe the words as having some meaning.
9/5/2008 11:30 AM
Dan
Marc -- I thought that was all the furious blinking he does while talking.
McCains smile is odd... the face knows when he is lying and is trying to separate itself from the lies.
9/5/2008 11:17 AM
Christopher
I agree Dan, he doesn't have much charisma which is why he's lucky he has Palin. Put him up against Obama on charisma alone and he's not going to get too far.
9/5/2008 11:16 AM

it's all about the independents and their speeches didn't do much in convincing the undecided vote. they just solidified the base.
9/5/2008 11:13 AM
Christopher
LOL. Well the way I look at it is that most democrats will vote for Obama and most Republicans will vote for McCain. It's the independents and the small percentage of undecided voters that each side is trying to woo. I would hope if they are undecided, they are paying attention. Everyone else has already drunk the Kool-Aid.
9/5/2008 11:13 AM
Dan
Has anyone else noticed how strangely McCain smiles during a speech? When he is reading something for a laugh, he reads it, looks up and then smiles. It doesn't look natural at all.
She is the fresh face nobody knows about. The initial response to something new is usually positive... they like the change, like the new energy.
The more people know, the less they will like. When she starts getting called on the lies she is telling, when the scandals start getting traction and stop getting written off as playing politics, when her Rev Wright story gets out there... she will be viewed differently
When Biden gets a chance to show how he is ready to lead and she isn't.. that will scare people. Especially given how feeble McCain is starting to look.

spam...the scourge of the internet. you know why can't our politicians do something about that? all we're trying to do is look for cocks and what happens? spam ruins it for all.
curse you spam!!

Favorability ratings are one little data point in time and I would think you'd expect such a bump after their convention. They still have 60 days to screw themselves, as do the Dems

(part 2)
11. He doesn't respect the position of of Vice President, as is evident by his past remarks and his choice of running mate. Lazy do-nothing VP's, its not like they've ever gone on to do anything great, like win a Nobel Prize or anything. All they do is fish, snowmobile, shoot guns at moose, and have people fired for disagreeing with them.
12. He doesn't see anything wrong with blowing billions of dollars a week on a war that's been "over" since early 2003. What can I say? McCain's a "never say die" kind of a guy, and you gotta respect a guy who refuses to back down even when its in his nation's best interests. Its not like we could do anything with that money anyway, since our schools are over-funded, everybody's got world-class health care, there is no such thing as poverty or hunger, and we're square with all out worldly debt. They only responsible thing to do with that money is to use it to send wave after wave after wave of poor young American soldiers at the situation, so they can all be "war heroes" like McCain.
13. He's a Maverick, just like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. And when the Russia's Mig's come a-knocking, who do you want to be flying that plane Maverick, or Iceman? It's take Tom Cruise over Val Kilmer any day of the week! Iceman is a dick anyway.
14. He's tough on the environment. The environment has been mouthing off for years, warming up and throwing hurricane after hurricane at our southern coast. If anyone could kick the environment's ass in a bare-knuckle boxing match, its John McCain.
15. He recognizes "socialism" as the dirty word that it is. Just say no to socialized medicine! Oh, and please ignore the fact that we've already got socialized (i.e. publicly funded) primary and secondary education, socialized retirement plans (i.e. "social" security), and that all our federal politicians are already benefiting from socialized medicine.
16. And last, but not least, he's got post-traumatic stress disorder. Some of the world's best artists have been messed up in the head, maybe its time for a president who is too!

1. He's old. If anyone knows what's best for the future, and the young people who will inhabit it, its crotchety old men who can't remember stuff.
2. He's rich, and married to the heiress of a beer fortune. Often I find myself wishing I had both money and beer, so it follows logically that a rich man with beer would be my ideal leader. Additionally, I think its only fair that the richest 10% get to speak for the poorest 90%, after all, its not like they'll be losing their homes or filing for bankruptcy because they can't afford to pay the medical bills, and stuff like that can really distract a person from what's important. And what's important is figuring out how to keep seven homes clean when you're only ever living in one of them at a time.
3. He contradicts himself all the time. This I can relate to, since whenever I'm in a situation where I don't know what the fuck is going on, I too make up stories on the spot. Its inevitable that a few of these will be contradictory.
4. He doesn't know how the economy operates. Neither do I, so I guess were all on the same page here. And I like a leader who knows no more or less than I do. If he knew more than me, like Obama does, it would make me feel stupid.
5. He doesn't know how to use the internet. What's the internet done for anyone anyway? Nothing! Lazy shiftless internet. I say we put the internet on trial, and hang it from the nearest flagpole!
6. He has experience. Nothing like hanging out in a cage in Hanoi for a few years to give a guy the know how to run a country. Actually, this is true. Last year I spent several months in a wooden crate in the basement, and when I came out, I was smarter, better looking, and knew the ultimate question, whose answer is 42. The question, fyi, is "how many times must a lie be repeated before it becomes truth?"
7. He's pro-life. Who do all these women think they are anyway, trying to make choices for themselves? Next they'll be wanting to vote, and drive, and work! Don't they realize that their bodies and minds belong to the US government? Women... Jeez!
8. He's pro-oil. Since oil comes from dinosaur bones, being pro-oil means your anti-dinosaur, and I am definitely anti-dinosaur (the candidate in question aside of course)! I mean, who wants a bunch of tyrannosaurs running around eating people? No one, that's who!
9. He's anti-renewable energy. John McCain prides himself of perseverance, and nothing shows more perseverance than clinging to a dying form of energy until its all gone, every last drop. And anyway, crisis brings out the best in Americans. If we just wait until all the oil is gone, without developing any new technologies, the sheer weight of the situation will spur development of those technologies at breakneck speed, so fast that we won't have time to test or perfect them, which will add the element of danger that makes life so exciting!
10. He makes uninformed decisions on the fly. Few things are better for national security than seat-of-your-pants governance. Taking the time to think through an issue means your giving the terrorists time to strike again! Thinking is over-rated anyway.

kerry,
that doesn't surprise me. caribou barbie is a "milf" and straight married men, even single men, love their milfs.

todd
christopher,
your right! he looks very feeble. i like him too overall but his time has passed.
if you guys have about 10-12 minutes, you can watch "caribou barbie" on the charlie rose show. she was on last october and basically all she talked about was drilling, energy, drilling, and energy.
Hey Stephen, On jimmy Kimmel last night they had another piece of signage that said something about "Ameirca"!!! It was just as pricelest...er...priseles....oh...prizelist!!!
9/5/2008 10:47 AM
Christopher
Todd, I noticed that sign too..cracked me up. I like McCain even though he's not my candidate of choice, but his time has passed. The guy does not have the energy for the next four years. It was sort of sad to see him last night. He looked kind of feeble.

i couldn't watch the speech but i read/saw the cliff notes version.
i can't to look at mcbush's left cheek. it's bulbous and deformed and when he smiles, yikes.

Hey now, if you were home schooled in a church basement spelling would be a challenge to you too.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...Landover Baptist is a fake site...IT'S A BRILLIANT SITE, but...it's all totally made up by a very funny queen in Atlanta who started up with this site, and went on to become Betty Bowers.
Sorry about that.

Any thoughts on that phenomenal speech McCain gave? Or that protester who managed airtime with his "McCain/Anti-Veteran" sign?
