GLBT Organizations Build Bridges Between Generations of GLBT Storytellers March 19, 2008
Los Angeles, CA - The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) Historical Society and the Lambda Literary Foundation have joined forces to celebrate the contributions of three generations of GLBT Storytellers. The two organizations will host a series of conversations in San Francisco, entitled "Passing On The Pen," designed to pair some of the pioneers of GLBT literature with today's emerging GLBT storytellers.
"This is the first time anyone has ever done anything like this" says Michael Nava, author and winner of five Lambda Literary Awards. "It's a powerhouse lineup, bringing together some astonishing talent and people who I have read and respected for many years as well as some wonderful new writers."
Ann Bannon, often called "The Queen of Lesbian Pulp Fiction" for her landmark Beebo Brinker Chronicles, and Victor J. Banis, the critically acclaimed author of more than 150 published books, will kick off the Passing On The Pen literary series on March 25th.
From March through December, the two organizations will present monthly events pairing authors from the early days of the GLBT movement with current day storytellers. Each event will be held in the gallery of the GLBT Historical society from 6:30 to 8:30, and will be free of charge and open to the public.
"In the early days of the GLBT community, our literature helped our community find its voice," says Paul Boneberg, the Executive Director of the GLBTHS. "Now it's helping us chart our future."
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender Historical Society (GLBTHS) collects, preserves, and interprets the history of GLBT people and the communities that support them. For more information, visit www.glbthistory.org.
The Lambda Literary Foundation is the country's leading organization for LGBT literature. Its mission is to celebrate LGBT literature and provide resources for writers, readers, booksellers, publishers, and librarians. For more information, visit www.lambdaliterary.org.

Clarification: Regarding the quotes often found at the end my postings, they are random and just come to me each day. As with everything else, readers can take them or leave them.

So Jake, let me get this, um, straight: In case you did not know, the British call the Atlantic Ocean the "pond." (They also call the French "frogs," but that's a whole 'nother thing - unless you consider that the French get LOTS and LOTS of days off each year.) So, you are saying that you generally wouldn't like more vacation time and days off in the U.S.?
FYI, I am not a practicing Buddhist, but Spiritual in my worship and meditation practices. (I grew up United Methodist.)

Jake, I guess we could take the European view and look for excuses to go "on holiday"? Don't we work a little too much on this side of the pond? 2008 is all about authenticity, compassion, prosperity, joy and BALANCE for me.
All such notions as causation, succession, atoms, primary elements...are all figments of the imagination; manifestations of the mind.

Harrison: Isn't it funny how some "chains" decide Easter is a big enough Holiday to close but others don't? I thought Easter was really not a Holiday, but something like St Patrick's day where everyone works but celebrates somehow by eating special M&Ms candies or something. I mean here's more important holidays at least in respect to things closing down: New Years, Christmas, 4th of July, Thanksgiving. What the hell is Easter? All I see are bunnies pooping eggs everywhere. This is not a reason for LA Fitness or Publix closing down.
Jake, Easter can be a multitude of things including happy. Oh, and I went to Publix tonight forgetting they were closed for Easter. CVS was open, thankfully, so I could get milk and Old Spice Red Zone Invisible Solid. As far as excercise, I walked three miles and took the train today as my car is in the shop until later - make lemonade, right?!

Harrison....Easter is not Happy. LA Fitness was "closed" today for "Easter." Like anyone working at LA Fitness has a soul let alone enough spiritual belief to actually celebrate Easter. So I went to 24 Fitness. Dirty, filthy, paint-peeling, florescent-light flickering, machines-are-always-broken 24 hour fitness ...but it was open. When worse comes to worse I guess the McDonalds of sports gyms really comes handy.
Hey Doug, I am a lifestyle publicist .. like Samanatha on Sex & The City and Edina on AbFab, except a gay man.

DOUG, thanks...yeah I'm a total sensitive guy (you'd NEVER be able to tell by my posts on this site). I typically isolate myself from humans when I watches sappy drama movies so I can ball my eyes out without getting embarrassing by someone saying "dude it's just a movie, King Kong doesn't REALLY exist."
I agree, I also don't like it when songs have been remixed that were perfectly fine on their own

DOUG, thanks for the movie suggestions! And to clarify, I do like club music, I like club music. However I don't like crappy top-40 house remixes you often hear at the gym or gay man late night circuit party tribal house remixes.
What, Jake? I happen to like most club type music (keeps me motivated at the gym, lol)- however, A&E makes my skin crawl, hehehe
As to movies and docs about AIDS, try these-
And the Band Played On
It's My Party
Longtime Companion (my favorite)
Time Out - The Truth About HIV / AIDS and You
Philadelphia
A Mother's Prayer
Life and Death on the A-list
Just a few for you to pick from, also, any doc on the AIDS Quilt will do, as well- having been there when they first displayed the quilt on the Mall, in DC, trust me, it hits you.
Probably my best quality as a coach is that I ask a lot of challenging questions and let the person come up with the answer.

Yeah speaking of building bridges I think the younger generation needs to tell the older generation to stop waering A&F and listening to tribal circuit house, and the older generation needs to tell the younger generation that listening to Reggeton and dressing up in emo isn't any better.
Anyway, are there any movies or documentaries out about the 80s AIDS crises? I think that should be a requirement for all fags to watch after they come out of the closet so that they can feel guilt and shamed into wearing condoms.
